THE 2018 Defensive Dandies

Are you interested in over 60% ATS winner this CBKB season? If so, you could do far worse than to focus on these DEFENSIVE DANDIES, for they are the heart and soul of our search for value in the CBKB world. Make sure to look for them in the all-important underdog role and don’t forget to read my companion article this week on the 2018 CBKB RATs..

Returning our attention to the DEFENSIVE DANDIES of CBKB, I use 3 key statistical categories to isolate a team’s success. Those statistics and the key numbers used for success are represented in the following 3 lines.

#1 40% or Less Defensive FG percentage

#2 30% or Less Defensive 3 POINT FG percentage

#3 65 PPG or Less allowed

As a supplement to these numbers I have added a 4th column which is “Turnovers Forced.” You can use that number to your own advantage in conjunction with the first 3.

All numbers are rounded to the nearest whole percent for ease of presentation. They represent action through December 31, 2017.

TEAM SU ATS DEF PPG DEF FG % DEF 3 PT % FORCED TO
Boise State 10-4 8-5 65 40 29 11.9
Bradley 10-4 8-4 61 38 30 15.1
Idaho 9-5 5-4 64 39 28 11.6
Maryland 12-3 8-3 63 37 28 12.5
Miami Fla 11-1 6-2 59 37 28 14.2
Missouri State 12-3 7-5 62 38 31 11.2
Northern Kentucky 9-5 8-3 64 40 28 16.3
Rutgers 10-5 5-2 60 37 29 16.0
South Alabama 8-6 9-2 65 39 30 13.4
San Diego 11-3 5-4 62 37 24 13.8
Texas 10-4 5-5 63 38 31 15.2
Texas A & M 11-2 5-5 65 37 27 12.1
Texas Tech 13-1 7-2 58 36 30 18.0
Virginia 12-1 7-3 53 36 31 13.9

As you can see from the list above many of these Defensive Dandies could be considered as “Hidden Gems” despite the record of 148-57 SU (72%) and 93-49 ATS (65%) there is still plenty of value in this group of teams. Look to particularly use them in the role of Underdog.
