THE 2017 CBKB RATS… A FIRST LOOK

Anyone who has played middle school basketball has had the fundamentals drilled into them. A game which they thought was all about shooting, quickly evolved into so much more. The mantra was drilled into the minds of many at an early age “defend, rebound, don’t lose the basketball.” As the game evolves those fundamentals are as true today as they ever were.

For the purposes of the CBKB sports bettor they are the key to profit. In the chart below we take our first look at the 2017 CBKB RATS . That acronym stands for (R)ebounding, (A)ssits, (T)urnovers. Our magic number is 10.

Here is the way it plays out when looking to isolate the best teams on the CBKB landscape.

#1 REBOUNDING MARGIN

#2 ASSIST/TURNOVER MARGIN

#3 NET TO MARGIN

When these 3 numbers for a team are all positive and add to 10 or more we are looking at a quality basketball team. For those are the numbers that indicate fundamental success. In a separate article, published in this time frame, we will isolate the “Defensive Dandies” which you may use in conjunction with this list. For today we concentrate only on the RATS.

Teams are presented in alphabetical order for ease of use. The numbers represent play for the 2017 season thru December 3rd.

The current list of 2017 CBKB RATs contains 42 teams. This number will decrease throughout the course of the season as the strength of schedule begins to even out. In the meantime, however, you can do far worse than looking to back these teams. And make sure to take a second look before you fade any of these fundamental specialists. In addition, check the companion article to this piece on DEFENSIVE DANDIES’s  to see which teams qualify on both lists.

I WILL SAVE YOU THE TROUBLE OF DOING THE MATH. WHEN TOTALING THE SU AND ATS NUMBERS ABOVE WE FIND THAT THESE TEAMS ARE 273-111 SU (71% ATS) AND 161-87 ATS (65%)

IS 65% ATS GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU?!
